Alphabet blocks were one of the very first educational toys developed for children. And it’s no wonder. Infants develop their hand-eye coordination by stacking them, and older children learn their letters. Budding engineers use them to construct castles and forts.
gnaana's alphabet blocks are designed to introduce the Indic letters and writing system to children. Children will also learn to associate each letter with everyday animals and objects. Here are a few ideas on how to use your gnaana blocks:
• Set up a Letter of the Day display on your kitchen table or in your playroom: select 1 block and 3-4 household objects that start with that letter.
• Present the blocks out of order: children learn better by internalizing (rather than by rote memorization).
• Play charades: Select a block from the canvas bag at random and show your child the letter. Act out a noun or verb that corresponds with that letter and have your child guess the word (such as pandi (pig) or parigethu (run) for the Telugu letter “pa”). You can play one-on-one with your child or involve the whole family – a great way to improve vocabulary!
Learning to read an Indic language is easier than learning English in some ways (there are no upper and lower case letters, and each letter has a single phonetic sound). Give your child the gift of your mother tongue.
